Over the past few weeks, I have been eating poorly. Now, I haven't gotten to the point of eating a burger every night. But I did have moments of ,"I started this paper, I deserve ice cream". I came to the conclusion that my diet and exercise (or lack thereof) needed to change. So, while sitting in my room doing absolutely nothing, I stumbled across Cassey Ho's, aka Blogilates, video on her 28 day reset. The point of the reset is to cleanse the body of toxins and promote a healthier lifestyle. The "rules" are as follows:
No gluten
No dairy
No alcohol
No sugar
No processed foods
Exercise 6 days a week
Now I realize that the list seems very demanding. However, I am currently on day 8 and I am already seeing and feeling results. My mom and I both committed to this reset, and yes, it has been hard. The first couple of days were the worst of the worst. But this is coming from someone who usually eats gluten, sweets, and processed foods pretty much every week. As time moved on, I adjusted to the change. I am not craving sweets and bread as much as I was last week. This reset has allowed me to focus on my health, not only for now, but also for the future. I always complain about not being happy with my problem area (stomach). And now, I am actually taking the steps to changing my eating habits.
As of today, I am still on winter break. Eating healthy has been relatively easy at home. But going back to school and continuing this process might be difficult. At school, I usually have wraps, sandwiches, or chicken tenders. Problem is, I can't eat any of that. So here is my plan for eating a restricted diet at school:
Get salads from the cafe
Bring things like oatmeal, quinoa, and some vegetables from home
Exercise in my room Mon-Fri, Saturaday or Sunday go to the gym w/ a friend
Eat at the gluten free cafe
Buy little snacks like apples/celery and peanut butter
This is a great way to bring in the new year. For those who still want to complete that resolution of getting in shape from 2016, this will motivate you to do just that. Blogilates is a great source of exercise and diet information. She has step-by-step instructions for her recipes and exercises. Check her out on youtube and on her blog at www.blogilates.com and www.youtube.com/user/blogilates. Good luck with your resolutions and goals for 2017!
The information above is from my personal experiences. Know your limitations and diet needs before committing to a change in diet. Consult a doctor before starting if you have any concerns or previous health issues. The exercise and eating plans are suggestions that should be used at your own discretion.
