The Goals Series: Following a Passion

Pursuing a dream can be a scary thought. You might think that what you are most passionate about is not achievable or possible. Maybe you don't have the funds to fully follow your passion. What if your passion is in a different city, state, or country? Do you leave everything you are accustomed to? Or do you stay in the comforts of what you know? No one can tell you how to live your life. No one can make decisions for you. You have to take charge of your life.
As you know from my previous post, I have a variety of dreams and passions. This website was my biggest passion and it took months to come to life. I had the idea of starting my own blog last year. I planned and researched for months, but the most work came from designing every page. I was anxious to put my thoughts and ideas on a public platform. However, I didn't want all of my hard work to go to waste. I took a two month break from designing and developing my blog. I made excuses that I wouldn't have enough time to work on it while in school. While that is a valid point, I didn't try to test out that theory. I convinced myself that it wasn't possible, and decided to let the idea go. It wasn't until the end of this past semester that I decided to follow the idea that I was so passionate about. I can honestly say that I am so happy that I went through with my plan. Yes, having a blog while in college is hard at times. However, I love sharing my ideas and tips. It's almost like having a job. Except I don't have to move out of my bed (which is a major plus).
Following a passion can, and in many ways will, take a significant amount of time. However, if you are actually passionate about it, you will be able and willing to put in that time and hard-work. I truly believe that everyone should have a passion. Whether it be playing piano, planning events, or making the world a better place; everyone needs to have something that they love and believe in. Here are a few tips to help you follow your passion:
1. Research, research, research! Before you become financially invested in something you love, you should look into the logistics behind it. If possible, look at the history and examples from other people.
2. Consult with people you trust. Having a second eye look at my blog helped me so so so much. Make sure the people you go to have your best interest in mind. If they do, they might be willing to help you. They may even invest in your idea!
3. Don't give up. Notable stars, inventors, artists, etc. were rejected. Walt Disney was told he lacked imagination. But in the end he created (a) multi-billion dollar industry that consisted of many characters, parks, and movies. Reaching an obstacle doesn't mean you should stop working. Be persistent. Have the attitude of victory, and you will achieve victories.
Following passions is possible. You have to be confident in yourself. Remember a positive attitude, will create positive results! So, what are your passions? How do you plan on making them come to life? Let me know in the comments below.
Continue to be uniquely you,
~TNQ
