Midterms are coming up at my school and I am starting my study regimen. If you have exams coming up or recently had them, you know that studying is not fun or easy. Here are a few tips and tricks I use while studying.
1. Don't study in a dark or comfortable place like your bed. YOU WILL FALL ASLEEP! Go to a study room or the library.
2. Make flashcards. Yes I know this isn't new news. But, making flashcards can help you. When making them, write the definitions or equations in colors other than black. Write in red, blue, pink, etc. You will remember the information more if you write in bright colors.
3. If you are studying for math, look up practice questions and complete them. Just looking at examples won't help you; you have to try them over and over.
4. Go to study sessions or groups. If your teacher offers a session before the exam, go to it! They might give you an insight as to what specifically is on the exam. You can ask them questions that you are confused about. Trust me, it's easier to ask your professor in person rather than over email.
5. Study with a friend. They might know what you don't know and vice-versa. And, it's better to work with others than struggling alone.
6. Take breaks. Don't study for seven hours straight the day before your exam. My rule of thumb is to study for two hours and take a 20 minute break in between.
Good luck on your exams! Study hard and study smart.
