Jobs and School

Some of you may know that I have a job. I work on campus 11-12 hours each week. The job itself isn't hard whatsoever. In fact, I actually don't mind going to work *gasp*. I know, I know, crazy stuff. But sometimes work, school, and extracurriculars can become overwhelming. If you are thinking about getting a job during college, consider these notes.

1. Don't let your eyes get bigger than your "stomach". What I mean is don't let the thought of money make you work crazy hours. Schedule your hours based on your class schedule, not your want for more money. Also, give yourself time to get to places. If your class gets out at 5:00, don't schedule for your work to start at 5:00 or 5:30. Allow yourself to get food, change, etc.

2. To go along with #1, most colleges have a cut off of the number of hours students can work on campus. My school only allows students to work up to 28 hours. I'm only able to work 12 hours maximum with my schedule being so busy.

3. Give yourself at least one day where you do not have work or school. This can be a Sunday or a Saturday. But, give yourself an off day. You will thank yourself later. You can use this day to relax or catch up on homework.

4. Every job isn't going to be glamorous. There is nothing wrong with cleaning toilets or serving food. Be open to the different opportunities that may come your way.

5. If you have a job that you refuse to do (with reason), don't do it. If you have allergies and you don't want to sneeze around food, don't apply to be in the cafe. I of all people understand that when you really need a job, you sign up for every- and anything. But, think before you sign up for something you don't want to do.

I hope this helped! Continue to be uniquely you!
