How to Decorate (quickly) for the Holidays

For those of you who don't know, I love Christmas. I love the holiday season. It always seems like a time where people are happier and are excited for the "magic" the holidays bring. Because of this love for the season, I love decorating. This year I decorated the entire inside of my house. It was a journey, but I got it done and it came out looking pretty good if I may say so myself! The outcome is always great but it might take some frustration to get there. It took me a little over a day to finish putting everything up. Here are some tips and tricks I use when I decorate.

1. Play Christmas music. Even if you are frustrated, hearing happy, holiday music will get you back in the mood to see your work through. Eventually, you will end up singing along and before you know it, you'll be done!

2. Decorate one room at a time. I realize that you might have a lot of momentum when you start out and you might want to go with the flow. But, at some point you will get tired and when you stand back to see what you have done, you will only see non-completed rooms. Going one room at a time will allow you to perfect that room and see somewhat of an end result.

3. Grab some people to help you. You might think that you won't need any help with decorating, but when 11PM comes around, you will be screaming for help. Ask your family or friends to help put up a few things. You can make it a fun event and create memories.

4. Make a Christmas/holiday closet. My mom and I made a Christmas closet two years ago and trust me it is a huge help. Essentially, when the holiday season is over, get a few storage tubs and label them box 1, 2, 3, etc. On the same label (which on our boxes is just loose leaf paper) write down what exactly is going in that box. Then put these boxes in your basement or wherever you have designated your Christmas closet to be. This will be such a help during the holiday season because you will be more organized. In turn, it will make your decorating process go by much faster.

5. Clean as you go. I learned this the hard way this year. While you may think that it will slow you down, cleaning as you go will make things a lot easier when you finish decorating. You won't have to look at your finished product and only see clutter and boxes. At least put all of your empty containers in one area so that you can easily move them back to their original area.

Decorating shouldn't be a pain. Have fun decorating and bringing in the season! Happy holidays and be uniquely you.
