Something New...

I'm sure many of you are (or are not) wondering what I've been up to so far this summer. Well, to start... drum roll please... I got an internship! My major requires me to take an internship for credit sometime during my four years. Typically, they are taken summer after junior year. However, I decided to take a leap and go after one this summer, and I got it. I am working as a production/news intern for WSYX/WTTE (ABC 6 and Fox 28).
This internship is three days a week starting at 6 AM and ending at 1 PM. In a normal day, I would start behind the camera for the 6 AM show, run the prompter (the words that roll for the anchors to read) for the 7 or 8 AM show, and go back on camera until 10 AM. At 10, I sit in with the producer for the Marketplace segments. Afterwards, we both head back to the office and I eat lunch and check my emails. Around 12 , I go back to the control room to roll the prompter or head to the studio to operate the camera for the noon show. I have gone on one shoot so far. The shoots take place around Columbus. They pack the truck with all the equipment and film either live or for a pre-taped segment. I have learned a lot so far and everyone has been really nice and understanding of my sometimes repetitive questions (I like to fully understand things). I look forward to seeing how much I know by August!
So what's next? Now that I have a news internship underway, I want to see what else lies ahead. I'm very interested in applying for production internships for Disney or Nickelodeon next summer. I want to see how entertainment shows operate in comparison to news to evaluate which side I like more. After graduation, I think I want to go for a year-long internship or something similar at a National Geographic or Discover Channel. I'm very excited for what the future holds. Here's to new experiences!
